Surf Stadium Japan opened in 2021. It is an outdoor pool on American Wave Machines PerfectSwell.

When to go
Open all year with irregular closing days. Tickets open about one month before each calendar month.
The fresh water is not heated. It runs about 25 C in early autumn and drops to about 5 C in winter.
A full suit is recommended. In winter, add gloves, boots and a cap.
Boards, wetsuits and lessons
Board hire costs extra. Wetsuit hire costs extra.
Rental boards are 7 ft and 8 ft soft boards. Hard boards book through the on-site surf shop.
An instructor stays in the pool every session. The beginner trial course runs only for pool charters.
Book online with a credit card, up to 10 tickets per session. Bookings cannot be refunded, and under-18s need a guardian.
Getting there and where to stay
HND is roughly three hours by road or rail. FSZ is closer but has far less service. Also worth pricing: NRT.
Shizuoka Airport is about 12 km away. From Tokyo, take the Shinkansen to Shizuoka, then the express bus to Shizunami Kaigan Iriguchi.
Beachfront hotels, guesthouses and campsites are within walking distance in Shizunami.
Shizunami beach on the Pacific is right next to the pool.
