Malibu First Point surf guide
The wave. First Point is a right-hand point break over cobblestones and sand at Surfrider Beach, next to Malibu Pier. It peels as a long, tapering wall with smooth faces, and rides run 150 to 300 meters. The site became the first World Surfing Reserve in 2010, and it shaped Southern California surf culture in the 1960s.
Who it suits. First Point is the longboard and funboard peak, and intermediates find long, open faces on small south swells. Shortboarders join in on bigger swells, and Second Point is the high-performance peak.
