Montauk Point (Turtles) surf guide

The wave. Turtles breaks on the rocky headland below the Montauk Point Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in New York State. It breaks over boulders and rock, and on a good swell it can get hollow. Erosion threatens the bluff, and surfers opposed a boulder seawall plan to protect the lighthouse because it would ruin Alamo, a nearby break.

Who it suits. This is an experts-only wave. The boulders, currents and crowd leave little room for error, so less experienced surfers should watch from shore.
