Sebastian Inlet (First Peak) surf guide
The wave. First Peak is the wedge on the north side of Sebastian Inlet, inside Sebastian Inlet State Park. Northeast swell hits the curved north jetty and wedges into a punchy peak that peels right. The wedge formed after Army Corps of Engineers jetty work in the late 1960s and helped shape surfers such as Kelly Slater and Lisa Andersen. Later jetty work weakened it for years, and in 2020 Stab Magazine reported it was coming back.
Who it suits. The wedge suits confident intermediate and advanced surfers who can hold their own on a crowded, competitive peak. Newer surfers should pick the sandbar peaks farther north, away from the jetty and the pack.
